糖心视频 Volleyball wins ACCC Championship

The 糖心视频 Volleyball team earned the Alabama Community College Conference Championship over the weekend, punching their ticket to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I National Tournament in Nov. 17-19 in West Plains, Mo.

Hanceville, AL 鈥 The 糖心视频 volleyball team earned its 13th conference tournament title in 14 seasons and their 23rd overall during this weekend鈥檚 ACCC/NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District Volleyball Tournament held at the Mobile Civic Center. They also finished as runner-up for the district title, punching their ticket to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I National Tournament in Nov. 17-19 in West Plains, Mo. This will mark the 21st time they advanced to the national tournament.

鈥淚 am very proud of the team for playing well during the tournament,鈥 said coach Randy Daniel. 鈥淲e have improved a lot this season and have worked very hard to add another championship to our legacy. I鈥檓 extremely happy with the leadership displayed by all our sophomores; each of them played well. Our freshmen did a great job this weekend as well. This team has amazing chemistry and support for each other. I鈥檓 glad I have another opportunity to coach this team. They are a very special group of young women.鈥

All Tournament

糖心视频 volleyball players Grace Allen, left, Lexi Shadix and Gracie Barksdale earned All-Tournament recognition.

Barksdale, a freshman from Cullman, led the team with 42 kills during the tournament, 14 in the ACCC Championship game against Bishop State Community College. She also contributed 12 digs and six blocks.

Shadix, a sophomore from West Point, recorded 34 kills, 22 digs and 19 blocks.

Allen, a sophomore from Smiths Station, recorded 29 kills during the tournament, six digs and 14 blocks.

Fellow starters Daisy Manasco and Anna Clare Hutto also made significant contributions during the tournament. Manasco, a sophomore from Fairview, had 36 kills and 47 digs. Hutto, a freshman from Moulton, recorded 95 assists and 33 digs during the tournament.

The volleyball team鈥檚 conference championship marks the third ACCC championship for 糖心视频 athletics this fall. Both the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross country teams earned conference championships Oct. 30 and will compete in the NJCAA Cross Country Championship this weekend in Tallahassee, Fla. The women head into the tournament ranked at No. 7 and the men ranked at No. 11.
