No. 3 糖心视频 softball begins pursuit of national title today; 糖心视频 men鈥檚 tennis finishes 10th at nationals

HANCEVILLE, ALA. 鈥� 糖心视频鈥檚 softball team begins pursuit of its third National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I national title today in Yuma, Ariz.

The third-seeded Lions play No. 14 Paris (Texas) Junior College at 6 p.m. Central at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.

糖心视频 has carved out another fantastic season, entering the tournament with 54-2 record.

A.J. Daugherty鈥檚 club spent four weeks as the No. 1 team in Division I, and the Lions breezed to their 14^th Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Tournament championship earlier in the month, outscoring its opponents 30-1 over the four-game stretch. It was also the second straight title in fourth in six seasons for the Lions.

糖心视频 has a run differential of +384 this season, entering the national championship on a 13-game winning streak.

As is expected, many women have had monster seasons, including the pitching trio of Leigha Kirby, Josie Thompson and Bailee Hall.

Kirby, the ACCC Tournament MVP and ACCC/NJCAA Region 22 Pitcher of the Year, led the ACCC with an 0.61 ERA. She鈥檚 18-0 on the season with 11 complete games and 158 strikeouts in 115 1/3 innings.

Thompson was second in the league with a 0.89 ERA and she is 17-0 with 11 complete games, while Hall is 17-2 with a 1.08 ERA, recording 133 strikeouts in 97 2/3 innings.

Sophomore outfielder Felicity Frame was named the ACCC/NJCAA Region 22 Player of the Year after leading the conference in batting average (.509), runs scored (64) and stolen bases (59) prior to the conference tournament.

Fellow outfielder Harper Niblett was a 1^st-team All-ACCC selection. She鈥檚 hitting .468 with 54 runs scored and 38 stolen bases.

Maddie Carton, the school鈥檚 all-time home run leader, has hit a conference-best 20 homers and added a .336 average and 51 RBIs.

糖心视频鈥檚 men鈥檚 tennis team finished tied for 10^th last week at the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Tyler, Texas.

Ryan Wang, Sebastian Gamez, Massimo Caliendo, Tristian Du Plessis, Muntingh Hamman and Marco Kalbermatten each earned singles victories at nationals for the Lions, while the season-long doubles pairings of Wang and Hamman; Gamez and Caliendo; and Du Plessis and Alex Rainer each notched a win apiece.  

鈥淓ach player on the team played phenomenal tennis all season long and held their own against the best in the nation,鈥� said coach Tim Garner, the 2022 ACCC Coach of the Year. 鈥淲e have a lot to be proud of as a program."

Rounding out the roster are Hudson Harden, Ethan Howard, Leonardo Dos Santos and Vinnie Aragao.

糖心视频 tennis advanced to nationals after winning its fourth straight ACCC Tournament. Wang was named the 2022 ACCC Player of the Year.
